In the old days a city would build
walls around itself to protect it. They could stand watch from the top of the
walls and see the approaching enemy. But if the walls were broken down, the
enemy came right in and could destroy the city and people or just make ruin of
it. The bible tells us in Proverbs 25:28 He that hath no rule over his
own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
When we can't control our emotions, we let the devil just come right on in and
make trouble for us and we hurt others in the process. We may not kill them,
but we'll ruin our own testimonies and damage relationships. What are some ways
we break our walls down?
Arguing with others
Using sarcasm with others
Raising our voices to others
Rolling our eyes to others
Hanging up on others
Ignoring others
Being full of pride
Being lazy
Being rude
Pretending to not notice when our kids are doing something wrong
Not getting off the phone when our children need discipline
Impulse spending
The list could go on and on. But with each of these things, we can see how if we do them, we allow the enemy to come in and hurt us or those around us that God has put in our path of life. The only way we can rule our spirit is to stay in the word of God and be submitted to a holy God. We must realize that it is far more important for God to be seen through us that for us to 'speak our minds' or to neglect what we are suppose to be doing and putting that on someone else.
